OGD1P-256DDAV FAQ

What is the purpose of OGD1?

OGD1 was designed mainly for the Open Graphics Project in order to test out the GPU design before we go to fabricate the ASIC. However, OGD1 isn't per se a graphics card but a FPGA development platform for new hardware, particularly graphics. It's designed for graphics, but with very little extra hardware, it can drive audio channels and perhaps even emulate USB and network devices.

Will there be a PCI-E version OGD1? Should I wait for it?

Yes. The "P" in OGD1P stands for PCI. OGD1E (the PCI-E version) is planned. However, preliminary estimate suggested that the high bandwith of PCI-E will not have a significant benefit even for the OGP project. We don't have a schedule for the PCI-E version yet. It will depend on the feedback of the OGD1P users. If you have an immediate need for a PCI-E version, please contact us.

When will OGD1P be available to purchase?

As of Jun 2007, all hardware bugs are identified and fixed. However, there is a slight delay in putting the changes in the schematics and fixing some PCB layout. It should not be too long before we can start taking pre-orders.

What will be the final price for OGD1P?

The final price is yet to be determined because that depends on whether we can get a big enough order to reduce the part cost. The estimate retail price will be $750. Volume pricing will be available and we will also work with the Open Hardware Foundation to give discount for eligible developers.

You mentioned the Open Graphics Project. Where do I get more information or get involved?

You can visit the Open Graphics Wiki page or join the mailing lists for more infomation.
An Open Hardware Foundation is formed also if you want to contribute to the Open Graphics Project or any Open Hardware Projects in general.
